Welcome to Memorial Spiritualist Church, a warm and inclusive community dedicated to spiritual growth, healing, and connection. We believe that everyone has the ability to connect with the spiritual world and grow in understanding and purpose.

Rooted in the principles of Spiritualism, our church affirms the continuity of life and the power of personal experience. Through spiritual healing, mediumship, and inspirational teachings, we support one another on our unique paths of discovery and transformation.

Whether you’re new to Spiritualism or have long embraced this path, we invite you to join us for services, workshops, and events designed to uplift, empower, and inspire.

our Story

Memorial Spiritualist Church was founded on October 13, 1938, and has been a continuous presence in the historic Park Place neighborhood of Norfolk, Virginia ever since. Nestled at the corner of Llewellyn Avenue and 37th Street, our church was purpose-built for Spiritualist worship—one of the few in the country with that distinction—and has served as a sacred space for over 85 years.

Our sanctuary has been lovingly preserved and enhanced through the decades. Each stained-glass window features a different flower, symbolizing the beauty and individuality of spirit. Behind the podium, a striking antique window from the 1830s offers a visual reminder of the enduring light that guides us.

Often called the “mother church” of the region, Memorial Spiritualist Church has nurtured many of the founders of metaphysical churches throughout Tidewater. Their journeys began here—inspired by the messages, healing, and sense of belonging found within these walls.

Today, we honor their legacy by continuing to blend time-honored Spiritualist traditions with new energy and open hearts. From Sunday services and message circles to healing sessions and educational offerings, we remain a sanctuary for seekers across our community.
