A core part of Spiritualist tradition, healing offers comfort, connection, and a return to balance.
What is spiritual healing?
Spiritual healing is one of the foundational practices of Spiritualism and is a key part of every worship service at Memorial Spiritualist Church. It is a time of quiet prayer and intention, where healing energy is directed for the highest good of all in need.
According to the National Spiritualist Association of Churches (NSAC), Spiritual Healing is the act of restoring harmony to the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of a person through the conscious direction of healing energy by a trained Spiritualist healer. This healing energy is not the personal energy of the healer, but rather a flow of divine healing from Infinite Intelligence—also known as Spirit or God—working through them.
types of spiritual healing
as defined by NSAC
Contact Healing
The healer places their hands lightly on the recipient (often the shoulders or upper back) to allow healing energy to flow through them.
Distant Healing
Healing is directed to a person who is not physically present, through focused intention and prayer.
Absent Healing
Similar to distant healing, but done without the recipient knowing it is taking place, often as a response to prayer requests.
Self Healing
The conscious direction of healing energy to oneself through prayer, meditation, or intention, recognizing the divine power within.
Spiritualist healers are trained and certified to act as clear channels for healing energy. With quiet presence and prayerful focus, they offer healing without diagnosis or physical manipulation. The recipient may sit quietly with eyes closed or open, simply being present and receptive. The healer does not give their own energy, nor do they take anything from the recipient—instead, they help facilitate the body’s natural ability to restore balance.
We welcome all to experience Spiritual Healing as part of our regular offerings.
When Healing is Offered by MSC:
- Every Sunday at 10:30 AM, before the morning service begins, our certified healers are available in the sanctuary for 30 minutes of quiet, individual healing. This is open to everyone and no appointment is needed.
- On the first Wednesday of every month at 7:30 PM, we host a dedicated Healing Service where all are invited to explore healing practices in a peaceful, supportive setting. These monthly gatherings include opportunities to receive healing and learn about different techniques and modalities. There is no charge to attend. Love Offerings are always appreciated.
The Healing experience
There’s a quiet power in the healing chair—a sense of being supported, seen, and connected to something greater. Many describe Spiritual Healing as a feeling of warmth, calm, or deep peace. Others simply feel held in loving presence—free to let go, to receive, to breathe.
Spiritual Healing is not a promise of cure, but an invitation to balance and alignment. Sometimes it softens pain. Sometimes it brings insight. Often, it reminds us we are not alone.
At its heart, healing is a sacred moment of trust between the recipient, the healer, and Spirit.

Prayer for Spiritual Healing
I ask the Great Unseen Healing Force To remove all obstructions from my mind and body And to restore me to perfect health. I ask this in all sincerity and honesty and I will do my part. I ask this Great Unseen Healing Force to help both present and absent ones who are in need of help And to restore them to perfect health. I put my trust in the love and power of God.
